Sandstone is a popular, attractive option for outdoor surfaces.
It’s important to maintain your sandstone surfaces, so that they continue to look fantastic, and do not degrade.
Every sandstone surface is different, due to the different types and grades of sandstone. As well as this, age can play a part in how to best clean a surface.
Therefore, it’s important to assess your surface before cleaning, to ensure you’re taking the correct route.
Although it’s one of the most porous natural stones, dirt and grime stains can be effectively removed from sandstone with the right practices.
Remove Debris
The first step is to remove any debris from the sandstone surface.
Being outdoors, it’s common for dirt, dust and leaves to build up. This debris needs to be removed before we can begin the next step.
For sandstone, this should be done with either a broom or a leaf blower.
Unfortunately, we’re unable to use our sweep and scrub machines on sandstone, due to the more fragile nature of the material.
Utilise Eco-Friendly Chemicals
When cleaning sandstone surfaces, we often come across difficult to remove stains. However, with our eco-friendly chemicals, we can see to them with ease.
Our chemicals will soften up any dirt and grime that has built up on the sandstone surface, making it easier to remove.
Moreover, as our chemicals are eco-friendly, we are having a minimal impact on the environment.
Pressure Wash
The final step is to thoroughly pressure wash the sandstone surface.
However, because some sandstone is relatively soft compared to other stone, care must be taken when pressure washing. Often, a lower pressure setting is better.
Once we’ve pressure washed your sandstone, you may also like to seal it. This can help protect your surface going forward.
